My Thinking My Words

ImageAfter a spate of religious channels, it is now the turn for a trendsetter spiritual mobile & internet channel, OM SHANTI OM ( http://www.omshantiom.tv ), to hit the airwaves. This 24-hour free-to-air channel has been launched from NOIDA by Vividha Media Initiatives Pvt. Ltd.

Om Shanti Om ( http://www.omshantiom.tv ) claims to be the India’s first and only spiritual mobile and internet channel that has the look and feel of a mainline mobile & internet channel. “Another of our USP is that unlike other religious channels that have the standard content in the form of religious discourses, ours is a racy channel with 10 hours of daily fresh content. Moreover, the profile of our channel is to target young viewers as well,” explained Vivek Avasthi, Founder, Vividha Media Initiatives Pvt. Ltd

We have tried to break the shackles of cable tv, DTH platorms and also sitting at home in front of the television set. We bring what you need in spirituality, at a given time on your laptop, tablet, smartphones of all types not only on 3G but 2G as well. This gives the viewer the liberty to watch what he or she wants to, while on the move.

Suppose channel “X” is available in one locality of the city and not in other place of the same city, a person wanting to see and hear his spiritual leader feels deprived. We have finished the reliance on cable tv watching. Cable or not cable, its distribution or no distribution, DTH or no DTH, television set not needed, we bring everything on present day gadgets and that too while the viewer is on the move.)

Talking about the channel content, Mr. Avasthi said that the uniqueness of the content lay in it being day-specific. “Like on Mondays, we have programming related to Lord Shiva, on Tuesday there programmes related to Lord Hanuman, on Wednesday related to Lord Ganesha and so on. Also, more than one-third of the content is graphics (that is, animated mythological characters),” he added.

There are daily programmes of bhajans, aartis and kirtan. Om Shanti Darshan, a 10-minute capsule provides information on religious shrines, while Om Shanti Yatra is a 30-minute travel show on the famous shrines in India. There are also one minute informative fillers on Guru Mantras. Said Mr. Avasthi, “The channel features a designer scroll that carries updated spiritual news and information about Panchang.”

The channel will also have live coverages of bhajan programmes, Gurbani, Kirtan, Aartis and Jagratas. “Most of our content is inhouse. However, we have also taken spiritual music rights from devotional development companies. Besides having content differentiation, our content can be enjoyed by viewers while doing their work,” Mr. Avasthi explained.

He further said that Om Shanti Om channels aimed at redefining the look of religious/spiritual channels. “That’s why, even our revenue model is different from the existing religious channels. Our main source of revenue would be from music promos and commercial slots. We will try to change the mindset of advertisers, emphasising that such a channel could well be an effective platform for all kinds of ads for consumers,” Mr. Avasthi added.

(Soon, we will be bringing programmes of astrologers, palmists, tarot card readers of repute with addition of renowned yoga instructors giving ‘live’ yoga classed. Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Religious Tourism will also have prominent slots in the days to come).
